  • I'm usually a big fan of They Might Be Giants, but I'm very disappointed in their songs "So to be one of us" and "Now that you're one of us" in Return to Neverland.  The songs are just too genericly Disney that they belong in a direct-to-video Disney sequel, not a theatrical release Disney sequel.  On the other hand, I really enjoy Jonatha Brooke's "I'll Try".  That's a Disney classic if I've ever heard one.  I might just buy the soundtrack just for that song (and the reprise).  There's an extra where she talks about the song for a few moments before a low budget music video version of the song plays.  Right now I'm just recycling through that and the credits (so I can listen to "I'll Try" and "Do You Believe in Magic" as covered by BBMak).

This was a birthday present for my mother's birthday the other week, and she finally watched it tonight (until she fell asleep).  At least her DVDs don't seem to have problems.  I finally watched my new copy of HP.  The dang thing has some white pixelization splotches in a couple of scenes.  The last copy I got had white pixelization eat up the whole screen and then jump six to seven minutes ahead in a couple of seconds before the pixelization was over.  When my parents borrowed the movie they got lost when that happened to them.  So I took it in and got this new copy.  I guess I should be happy that I don't lose any scenes or partial scenes.  But I don't like having white blocks in the middle of dark scenery or darkly garbed people.  Also, all of the submenus are black screens.  I'm just not sure if it'll be worth taking the dang thing in yet again.  :(

Well, today we hiked round trip from Seventh Steet to Seventh Avenue along the #100 Trail of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.  I was quite happy so see that my mother didn't complain about being tired until we were within visual distance of the parking lot.  She's really getting back into shape.  I just hope she keeps it up after the Disneyland trip and after they move out in a few weeks.  I guess she's even started some Yoga she picked up from O Magazine.  I couldn't ever get her that health conscience in the past.  That's very encouraging.

Saturday night Mike, Rusty, Steve, and I went to Fudrucker's before playing Warhammer Quest.  Our luck was aweful.  None of our parties survived long enough to complete the quests.  We played five different quests, with different people taking on different roles each time.  That didn't even work.  But it was fun.  The Fudricker's on Elliot and Priest actually has Ostrich burgers on the menu!  They were faily good, as were the usual chili cheese fries I like getting from there.  It's been years since any of my friends have wanted to eat at a Fudrucker's.  It was a great change of pace.

Friday night I got hosed.  I showed up at 7pm for the IMAX Star Wars, and Blackburn wasn't around with our tickets like promised.  The box office hadn't been left with my ticket.  The Fan Force people who were in the consessions area claimed Eric had my ticket, and a few offered to get him to bring my ticket out, but that never happened.  Eventually, they started the film and I was still stuck out in the lobby.  Thankfully, the one ticket taker waved me on through when no other employees were around.  God bless that man.  There was no way I was paying twice to see that showing.  If I hadn't gotten satisfaction fairly soon I was going to call Bill and demand answers.

I ended up not coming into the movie until Obi-Wan says, "I can sense it, too."  Thankfully, Wayne waved me over to an empty seat when I walked in.  There was no way I was going to find an empty seat in that theatre otherwise.  It was rather packed.  After the film, Eric was quick to deny any responsibility for anything.  How that boy (he's definately not a man yet) ever got an office is beyond me.  Between his obvious desire to avoid responsibility or even seem concerned at all to my plight and his lack of responsibility the night before any respect I had for the boy was crushed completely.  I'm sure he must have a good quality to him somewhere, but I'll leave it to God to know what it is.  I've certainly got better things to do than try to figure out what it might be.  Thursday night he was so irresponsible that he lost the box of PFF shirts that he brought to give to those who paid for them.  Some (like me) had already received their copies before the movie.  But others were hosed because he couldn't be responsible enough to not leave the box out in the main mallway unattended during the two plus hour movie.

Back to Friday, I was feeling rather burned by Fan Force in general after that, but Void did go out of his way to personally invite to his place afterwards with everybody.  I felt kind of bad because I had to turn him down if I wanted to bicycle home before work the next day.

Thursday night I bicycled home after the midnight showing.  This was a lot safer than riding home at 23:30 hours when all the Halloween drunks would have been on the road.  Of course Wiersch ended up showing up anyway, and did offer me a ride home after the first showing.  I just didn't feel like missing out on a free showing of Star Wars after I'd already gotten the day off work so I could see it and ride home safely.

Nobody really recognized me as the Brent Spiner character from ID4.  Oh well.  At least they recognized I was a mad scientist in general.  Linda told me that I needed a tentacle around my neck for people to get the ID4 reference.  One of these days I need to make some more costumes.  I just haven't been in the mood ever since I lost my costuming partner Dworshak to first the Marines, then his work/school combo.  I think I need someone else to be excited about costuming, too, in order for me to make the time to do it.  I probably ought to go to one of the Fan Force costuming making gatherings, but after Friday night I may not want to do so.

I was kind of surprised to see that Jess showed up in her Hogwarts costume instead of her proposed Amelie costume.  You know, after watching HP:SS this morning I kind of wanted an HP costume, too.  I'm too short for Hagrid; too bearded for a student.  But it was just a feeling.  Maybe I can plan for 2004 when HP:PA comes out.  Of course, with Sio Bibble cut out of the IMAX edition of SW:AC I may never make the time to make that costume I've been thinking about for a while, too.  Of course, with Hogwarts Live Action planned for Hexacon XIII, I might need a costume long before HP:PA.

  • First: Ostrich burgers??? RIGHT ON!! I get a kick out of those! Now I have an incentive to go to Fuddruckers again. Do you think they taste a bit like lean beef, or is it just me?

Second: whoa, I'm so sorry about Friday! :( that is just stupid, what happened to you, i mean. [hug]

Third: I think your costume was still incredibly inventive, even if we all had to be told what it was. :)

  • Thanks for the v-hug.  I'm real thankful that IMAX employee waved me through.  I still wonder who has my ticket.  It must be somewhere.  I like to keep my movie tickets as a record of what I've seen and done.

I could definately notice some taste similarities between ostrich and lean beef.  I find that I prefer ostrich and bison over beef when available.  Did you know that Bill Johnson's Big Apple now has bison burgers on their menu?  They call them "Buffalo Burgers" even though they don't use buffalo sauce on them.  Go figure.

The cool thing about ostrich burgers at Fudrucker's was that they offered 1/3 and 2/3 pound varieties, just like the regular burgers.  However, its hidden on the Other Burgers menu, along with the veggie burger and fish options.  After I ordered my burger, Mike actually changed his order to ostrich, too.  He didn't even notice it on the menu!  Mmm, mmm, good!  I recommend the burgers to anyone who includes meat in their diet.
